Writer's Block: Church and State

Today in 1893 U.S. President Benjamin Harrison declared full amnesty for Mormon polygamists. Is it the government's place to define which marriages are valid and which are not?
No it's not considering marriage is not a government matter nor should it be as it is right now, it's a matter between the people and their faith or lack of it (hehe). It should not be legislated or monitored. Only when we are filing an application with any federal or state organization should it be able to ask us questions and that is with our consent even then they should stay out of it unless someone is being seriously harmed in some way. Marriage should up to those getting married to define shouldn't it.
